Health International confirms no cases of COVID-19 in Cozumel

HEALTH INTERNATIONAL CONFIRMS NO CASES OF COVID-19 IN COZUMEL

+ Following the investigation carried out by Health International staff it was confirmed that there are no cases of Coronavirus (COVID-19) on the MSC Meraviglia cruise ship

Cozumel, Quintana Roo, Mexico - After the investigation conducted by Health International personnel, it was confirmed that there are no cases of Coronavirus (COVID-19). The ship's crew notified Mexican authorities about the existence of a person with acute respiratory disease on board.

They also reported that medical personnel on the ship conducted a rapid test and resulted in a respiratory infection associated with Type A Influenza.

As they were on route to Cozumel, the Quintana Roo State Ministry of Health began preparing to apply the appropriate protocols.

During the revision, they identified two people with respiratory infection. Neither of them presents factors associated with COVID-19. As part of the procedure, the tests were sent to the Quintana Roo State Health Laboratory and the second confirmation of the type of influenza is expected to be received this evening.

Health International personnel on the MSC Meraviglia cruise ship conducted a routine procedure in accordance with Health International regulations that apply to ships of all types.

"Every month, Health International carries out inspections on approximately 180 ships that arrive at ports in the state," explained Dr. Alejandra Aguirre Crespo, Ministry of Health and Head of State Health Services for Quintana Roo.

Cozumel, given its significance for tourism, complies with all safety standards and we work every day to maintain the international quality of its services.

Therefore, we reiterate that we do not have any case of COVID-19 in the State of Quintana Roo, and as always, we continue to welcome visitors across the state offering them both safety as well as quality services and experiences.
